Welcome In ABC Unified School District, we understand that the choices you make today about your children's education will greatly impact their future studies and careers. We know that you, as parents/guardians, want the best possible education for your children, and we feel confident that you will be interested in finding out more about the challenging and innovative curriculum that our schools have to offer. This website is designed to provide information about the Schools of Choice and Magnet School Programs in ABCUSD. What is Schools of Choice? The Schools of Choice / Open Enrollment process provides parents an opportunity to apply for schools outside of their school of residence. Residents of ABCUSD may apply for enrollment at any school including magnet schools, with the exception of Tracy and Whitney High Schools. Those living outside of the district must apply with an Inter-District permit and will be selected only after all ABCUSD resident requests have been filled and to those schools where there is space available. Speech and language services and resource specialist services are offered at all school sites. Some specialized special education classes and services are not offered at every site. Selection in a special education program is subject to internal review by the department as programs are impacted and space is reserved for resident students only. What is a Magnet School? A Magnet School is one that is chosen by its district and the federal government to receive extra funding, equipment, teachers, and training to "specialize" in a chosen field or two. All of the 16 Magnet Schools in ABCUSD have been awarded over $20 million federal monies to develop and sustain theme-based programs of excellence. Magnet Schools were developed so that children who show aptitude or interest in certain areas such as math, computer science, or the arts have a place to develop those interests and prepare for college. All magnet schools provide programs that are aligned with the California Academic Content Standards. Applications for ABCUSD Magnet Schools are available to families residing in or outside of the district. Employees of businesses within the ABCUSD are welcome to apply for their children in our outstanding magnet schools. Magnet schools are educational options in the ABC Unified School District.
